Every October, Charlottetown gets a little louder. The festival brings jazz and blues players from across the country to a handful of rooms in the downtown core, and for five days the city has a soundtrack that runs from lunchtime until well past midnight.
The 2026 edition follows the same shape as always. A main stage under the tent on the waterfront. A seated church series for the quieter sets. Late night shows in partner venues once the headliners are done. Workshops in the afternoons for anyone who wants to understand how the music actually gets made.
What to expect
Some years the festival leans hard into straight ahead jazz. Some years it is more blues and roots. The through line is players who can really play, and an audience that knows the difference. You will hear Juno winners and ECMA nominees, East Coast artists who have been building a following for years, and Island musicians who grew up in the local school band programs and came back home to play.
The main stage is standing room with some seating around the edges. The church series is the opposite. Quiet room, good sound, an audience that actually listens. Late night is where things loosen up. Players sit in with each other, nobody sticks to the setlist, and you never quite know who is going to show up on stage.
Plan your visit
Downtown Charlottetown is compact, which is one of the best things about this festival. Most of the venues are a ten or fifteen minute walk from each other. If you are staying in the core you can leave the car at the hotel and walk to everything. If you are coming from away, book early. October fills up and the good rooms go first.
Tickets go on sale closer to the summer. Single night tickets, festival passes and late night covers are all separate. The pass is the better deal if you are planning to come to more than a couple of nights.
Get involved
The festival runs on volunteers. Every year a small crew of people who love live music give up a few evenings to make the shows happen. No experience needed. If you can show up on time and treat people well, you will fit in fine. There is also room for sponsors and community partners who want to help keep the festival going.
Lineup announcements, schedule and ticket details will be posted here as they are confirmed. Follow the festival on social media if you want a heads up before things go public.
